Recycling at Christmas

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas as lights illuminate neighborhoods, decorations emerge in store windows, and families make plans for the holidays?

Communities surge with activity as people venture out to find the perfect gift for loved ones, prepare for family gatherings, and celebrate the season.

As demand increases in many industries during this time of year, more material is produced, which leads to more opportunities to recycle!

According to Stanford Building & Grounds Maintenance, “The 2.65 billion Christmas cards sold each year in the U.S. could fill a football field 10 stories high!” Fortunately, most Christmas cards are made of recyclable paper.

Some of the other recyclable materials that are abundant during the Holiday season include:

  • Cardboard boxesHoliday Material
  • Non-foil wrapping paper
  • Packing paper
  • Newspaper
  • Magazines
  • Envelopes
  • Christmas letters

  • Ribbons and bows
  • Packing peanuts (Styrofoam)Christmas bags
  • Plastic stretch wrapbow
  • Plastic bags
