Scrap Reduction Tips
With some simple changes, minimizing waste can help maximize profits. Some possible tips include:
- Eliminate or reduce paper memos; use email, route the information, or post in a common area.
- Turn scrap paper into scratch paper.
- Use glassware in the office instead of Styrofoam.
- Use recycled paper or newspaper for shipping packing.
- Examine packaging to see if less can be used.
- Reuse file folders and inter-office envelopes
- Ask suppliers about reformulated products such as toners and water based paints and cleaning solutions.
- Eliminate unnecessary reports.
- Identify materials being disposed of in high volume. They may be recyclable – saving your company on disposal costs.
- Track disposal expenses and waste volume. You may be able to reduce the size you’re the dumpster used and/or the frequency of pick up.
- Donate old magazines to libraries.
- Sell or donate office equipment and supplies that have become obsolete.
