Scrap Reduction Tips


With some simple changes, minimizing waste can help maximize profits. Some possible tips include:

  • Eliminate or reduce paper memos; use email, route the information, or post in a common area.
  • Turn scrap paper into scratch paper.
  • Use glassware in the office instead of Styrofoam.
  • Use recycled paper or newspaper for shipping packing.
  • Examine packaging to see if less can be used.
  • Reuse file folders and inter-office envelopes
  • Ask suppliers about reformulated products such as toners and water based paints and cleaning solutions.
  • Eliminate unnecessary reports.
  • Identify materials being disposed of in high volume. They may be recyclable – saving your company on disposal costs.
  • Track disposal expenses and waste volume. You may be able to reduce the size you’re the dumpster used and/or the frequency of pick up.
  • Donate old magazines to libraries.
  • Sell or donate office equipment and supplies that have become obsolete.
