Life Cycle of a Plastic Bottle

With the hot and humid weather this summer, plastic water and soda bottles are pretty popular!

In fact, did you know that Americans use approximately 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour?!

Not only are plastic bottles recyclable, there's quite a bit of variety in their new product life. They can be made into polyester carpet, backpacks, jackets, sleeping bags, and much more. Today a water bottle, tomorrow... who knows!

Whether in a break room at work, or in your kitchen at home, you get an opportunity to recycle with every plastic bottle.

The diagram below shows a recycled bottle's life cycle:

Recycled paper supplies more than 37% of the raw materials used to make new paper products in the U.S. Without recycling, this material would come from trees. Every ton of newsprint or mixed paper recycled is the equivalent of 12 trees. Every ton of office paper recycled is the equivalent of 24 trees.
