If a material is paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, or glass, it is recyclable...right? Fortunately, most of the time this is correct! However, just as the English language is notorious for "exceptions to the rule," there are materials that commonly trip people up when it comes to recyclability.

  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic stretch wrap
  • Hypodermic needles (Medical waste)
  • Styrofoam
  • Plastic silverware
  • Metal wire
  • Clothing
  • Diapers

Keeping these materials out of the recycle bin helps decrease contamination when recycled commodities are made back into new products, and it decreases the risk of system damage at a recycling facility.

If you have any questions about whether a material is recyclable, feel free to contact us by responding to this blog, or send us a message via Facebook or Twitter. We'd love to help!

Mining is the world's most deadly occupation. On average, 40 mine workers are killed on the job each day, and many more are injured. Recycling reduces the need for mining.
